After drifting downwards in the week to the 11th, the Liv-ex Claret Chip Index finished in the red once again on Friday. The index closed at 441.18 – falling 0.53 points, or 0.12 per cent, on the previous week. The Liv-ex Fine Wine 50 didn't fare much better and is currently down 0.67 per cent in the month to date. The index ended the week at 434.29.
With the market struggling for direction (and merchants presumably raising capital for the Bordeaux 2010 campaign) the Liv-ex indices may well finish March in negative territory. The last time that the indices posted minor falls was during the July holiday slowdown. Will the en primeur campaign put the spark back in the market?
The chart below tracks the progress of the Liv-ex Fine Wine 50 since the beginning of March.
